About the International Day of Happiness:

The history of UN's International Happiness Day 20.03 began with the first conference about happiness in 2012, with the participation of 193 countries all over the world. With the aim to put more focus on 'happiness as a fundamental human goal' and to redirect 'economic activities towards a more sustainable development goal', these countries signed the decree to take actions on happiness. The International Day of Happiness thus was born and celebrated on March 20th every year, marking the day when the sun is closest to the equatorial, the length of day and night being equal, symbolizing balance and harmony on earth.

It is the Kingdom of Bhutan that has inspired the world to take this commitment, because developing with values has been this small country's strategy for over 40 years. The King 4th's visionary "Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product" statement has become the long-term guideline for Bhutan to build an equitable and sustainable Socio-economic growth as one of the other equally important three pillars, including Governance, Environment and Culture. GNH collectively provides an inclusive approach to all life forms that are essential not only to the survival but also to the highest growth of human potentials.

This year UN has taken a mission on climate change for the International Happiness Day. Happiness is more than a fleeting concept, it is globally a call to act.

About the social campaign Happiness In Vietnam:

Vietnamese people are known for being on the line of friendliness, openness to learning and eagerness to growth. We used to rank much higher on the World Happiness Index. In recent decades, the country has been going after socio-economic growth without taking into consideration the preservation of our natural resources and the well-being of our human resources. As a result, the problems we are facing nowadays have outnumbered our unique selling points. When I relate to my work, work ethics and people morality have gone down. The lack of trust and the increase of competition have resulted in stressful work places and poor attitude work force. Trust and happiness, as we're well aware of, are the glue and the enzyme that strengthen and boost individual and organization's performance. The need to create a community of happiness in Vietnam where individuals and organizations are keen on practicing happiness skills and models for a more stable, people-oriented development with ethical practices is a must to prepare the ground for a new paradigm of education and business to evolve.

Happiness In Vietnam's social campaign, therefore, has been a project worth sharing. It is a sum effort of individuals and communities who want to bring happiness to the spotlight and attract like-minded and hearted people. This is a project, initiated and executed within one week, that I'm so proud to be a part of.
